Mr. Charles Purkess

Mr. Purkess leads Green Island Power’s development in UK and European markets.

He brings more than two decades of experience in clean energy market development and commercialisation of disruptive energy technologies. He holds leading insight and expertise in practical, commercial hydrogen system design and market application, having enjoyed a 16-year tenure with ITM Power plc –Global Top 5 hydrogen electrolyser OEM by manufacturing capacity – during which time he founded ITM Power in Australia and served as its Board Director, alongside the role of Business Development Director for the global group.

Mr Purkess is also a qualified environmental engineer with a long background in engineering consultancy to the oil and gas sector prior to his work with the hydrogen sector.

A highly experienced business developer, Mr. Purkess has a strong track record in advancing emerging clean technologies to market. He is respected for his ability to identify and shape new energy market opportunities and has delivered go-to-market energy system strategies in complex regulatory and commercial environments across Australia, UK and EU.

Mr. Purkess is experienced in corporate reporting, especially ESG measurement, as well as political engagement, lobbying, and long-term strategic investor relations. He is a respected industry communicator, regularly participating in media interviews, conferences, panels, and global events across the transport and energy sectors.

His work across multiple major European and Australian hydrogen initiatives has seen Mr. Purkess collaborate productively in consortium with large global corporates, contributing to projects for all primary hydrogen end-states: mobility, power, export and industrial. This deep experience offers valuable perspective to Green Island Power’s commercial stored-hydrogen-to-power system rollout strategy.
